Course Information

Professor

Rev. Dn Vitaly Permiakov, Ph.D.

Born to a Russian family in Riga, Latvia, Dn Vitaly Permiakov, Ph.D. relocated to the United States in 1999 after completing his undergraduate studies. He entered St Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary (SVOTS) in Yonkers, NY with the blessing of the late Archbishop Dmitri (Royster) of Dallas (OCA) (d. 2011). After finishing seminary, Dn Vitaly enrolled in a doctoral program in Liturgical Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where in 2012, he defended his dissertation on the history and origins of the Byzantine rite for the consecration of churches. Dn Vitaly taught at Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in Jordanville, NY from 2011 to 2020, and joined the full-time faculty at St Vladimir's Seminary as Assistant Professor of Liturgical Theology in August 2020.

Course Description

This online course is four weeks long and will take place via Zoom every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET, from April 2 through April 23, 2024. Each session includes:

  • A recorded video lecture by the professor

  • Optional Readings, provided beforehand

  • Live Discussion

    • Introduction

    • Asynchronous material review by the professor

    • Q&A

    • Zoom Break-out Room Discussions*  

Important: After registration, please note that the course will be available from March 26th - May 31; during this time, you will have access to all the lectures, slides, and reading material. You will need to create a username and password to log into the course. 

There will be no refunds after March 26, 2024. This is a non-credit and non-transferable course.
